Ahh, the holidays – a natural time to improve your mental health by taking some days off, whether you’re a student on winter break or an adult indulging in some glorious PTO (or, cough cough, “sick days”). While the holidays tend to be a great time for me to relax and recharge, they are not typically a very healthy time for my bank account. From Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales to family trips and New Year’s parties, I do quite a lot of spending for someone who is taking so much time off of work (sadly, PTO only lasts for so long) – and a good chunk of that spending isn’t mine to do in the first place.
I recently went to Washington DC with my boyfriend and his family for a quick Thanksgiving getaway. There were usually 7 of us together at any one time, and coordinating transportation to and from various tourist attractions for everyone was a hassle to say the least. I was named most knowledgeable in regards to coordinating the transportation, and I was (literally) paying the price for it. Thank goodness for modern technology - Square Cash (and a calculator) made it a breeze to split the cost between all of us… and prevented my bank account from dropping as low as the weather.
As much as I wish I could have continued my vacation for a few more weeks (read: months), I had to eventually return back to Oregon to face reality – and a Christmas to-do list. I took it upon myself to purchase a semi-large haul of holiday candles, decorations, and ornaments for the apartment I share with my boyfriend. Since intended to share these items with him I figured we could share the cost as well, so I was sure to use Square Cash to send him a request for half of the final purchase cost. Since he also has the app on his phone, it was easy for him to accept the request, and neither of us have to worry about making the reimbursement happen “later.”
Square Cash has also been an essential tool for me and my sister, Lara, outside of the holiday season. Living 2,900 miles apart from each other doesn’t exactly make sharing closets (or wallets) easy. We are constantly discovering new clothing, make-up, and household trends and are quick to video chat once we find something that we know the other will need. Square Cash makes it incredibly easy for us to send each other money from across the country in seconds for just a 1% fee. Don’t want to pay the fee? No problem – you can have the money arrive the next business day for no charge.
The Square Cash app is definitely one that has a permanent place on my phone, as it is so practical and so easy to use. It’s available at your fingertips right when you need it – especially for those times when you are out with friends but forgot you left your debit card in the jeans you wore out last night – because “I’ll just Square Cash you” is a lot more convincing than “I’ll pay you back next time.”
Square Cash is available for free in the iTunes and Google Play stores. Download Square Cash and try it today!
Until next time,
