Ahh, the holidays – a natural time to improve your mental health by taking some days off, whether you’re a student on winter break or an adult indulging in some glorious PTO (or, cough cough, “sick days”). While the holidays tend to be a great time for me to relax and recharge, they are not typically a very healthy time for my bank account. From Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales to family trips and New Year’s parties, I do quite a lot of spending for someone who is taking so much time off of work (sadly, PTO only lasts for so long) – and a good chunk of that spending isn’t mine to do in the first place.
I recently went to Washington DC with my boyfriend and his family for a quick Thanksgiving getaway. There were usually 7 of us together at any one time, and coordinating transportation to and from various tourist attractions for everyone was a hassle to say the least. I was named most knowledgeable in regards to coordinating the transportation, and I was (literally) paying the price for it. Thank goodness for modern technology - Square Cash (and a calculator) made it a breeze to split the cost between all of us… and prevented my bank account from dropping as low as the weather.
As much as I wish I could have continued my vacation for a few more weeks (read: months), I had to eventually return back to Oregon to face reality – and a Christmas to-do list. I took it upon myself to purchase a semi-large haul of holiday candles, decorations, and ornaments for the apartment I share with my boyfriend. Since intended to share these items with him I figured we could share the cost as well, so I was sure to use Square Cash to send him a request for half of the final purchase cost. Since he also has the app on his phone, it was easy for him to accept the request, and neither of us have to worry about making the reimbursement happen “later.”
Square Cash has also been an essential tool for me and my sister, Lara, outside of the holiday season. Living 2,900 miles apart from each other doesn’t exactly make sharing closets (or wallets) easy. We are constantly discovering new clothing, make-up, and household trends and are quick to video chat once we find something that we know the other will need. Square Cash makes it incredibly easy for us to send each other money from across the country in seconds for just a 1% fee. Don’t want to pay the fee? No problem – you can have the money arrive the next business day for no charge.
The Square Cash app is definitely one that has a permanent place on my phone, as it is so practical and so easy to use. It’s available at your fingertips right when you need it – especially for those times when you are out with friends but forgot you left your debit card in the jeans you wore out last night – because “I’ll just Square Cash you” is a lot more convincing than “I’ll pay you back next time.”
Square Cash is available for free in the iTunes and Google Play stores. Download Square Cash and try it today!
Until next time,
Can you believe it's already December?!
Honestly, I'm not too sure where 2016 has gone. It's been a crazy one for sure, and I'm way too excited to take a trip back home for the holidays in a few weeks to spend time with the people I love.
Of course, one of the best parts about the holiday season is the gift giving! I absolutely love picking out presents that I know my friends and famiy will cherish for years to come.
One of the people I've missed the most since moving to New York City has been my twin sister, Tami. We've never lived more than an hour and a half apart, so being 3,000 miles away from each other now is a pretty big deal! To help make the time difference a little sweeter, this year I'm giving my twin sister the gift of time.
She's always "stealing" my JORD Wood Watch to wear on her own, so I figured it was time to give her her very own! Plus, with JORD's new styles of watches and personalized engraving (!!!), it was easy for me to pick out the perfect timepiece that I know she will wear and love every day.
My sister is super into neutral tones such as grey, and since she lives in the Pacific Northwest I gave her a deep woodsy piece that goes with her everyday style. I chose to personalize my sister's watch with her first and middle name in order to make the piece something that was truly her own. Our father picked out her middle name and our mother picked out mine, so both our names mean a lot to us!
JORD can engrave the back plate of the following watches: Fieldcrest, Reece, Frankie35, Frankie, and Conway. You can also have the side of the cedar presentation box engraved! Engraving costs just $35.00 per watch and $45 per box, and you can choose a block or script font. For character limitations, please visit the website!
Keep in mind that engraving will extend your delivery time by up to 7 business days -- customization is not a last-minute thing!
If you're looking for something to WOW this holiday season, an engraved gift is just what you need. Take wood engraving to the next level with a beautiful JORD watch engraving, and know that your recipient will think of you each time they wear their new watch!
Feeling inspired? Enter to give (or get!) a JORD watch here, and receive a $25 gift code to use on the site just for doing so!
Have a very Happy Holidays!
